Opa-Pappou is a heartfelt Australian, Greek, and German short film that explores the connections between different cultures living in Australia. At its core, the story follows a young girl’s bond with her grandfather and her emotional journey navigating grief and guilt after his passing. I worked as Head of Unit and Runner on this project. Thrilled to share that Opa-Pappou is an Official Selection at a fantastic festival that rated the film 4 out of 5 stars! Even more exciting Opa-Pappou is now being submitted to 50 associated festivals through their network.

Dowry Abuse Short Film

Educational Short Film | 7m | 2024

I directed a 7-minute short film addressing the urgent and often overlooked issue of Dowry Abuse in Australia, created on behalf of a client with the goal of submitting the video to the government to advocate for legislative change. Dowry Abuse involves the coercion, extortion, and mistreatment of individuals—primarily women—linked to dowry demands and remains a serious but underreported issue within Indian and South Asian communities in Australia. Victims often experience domestic violence, financial abuse, and isolation, with limited legal protection currently in place. This film aims to raise public awareness and spark critical conversations about the cultural and systemic factors that allow dowry-related abuse to persist within migrant communities. By humanising the issue through storytelling, the objective is to compel lawmakers to acknowledge the harm and introduce stronger, targeted legislation to address and outlaw Dowry Abuse across Australia. The project represents both a creative and social responsibility initiative, using film as a platform for advocacy and meaningful change.

Scopophobia

Horror | 6min | 2024

For this short film, I chose to expand my skills by taking on the roles of Costume Designer and SFX Makeup Artist instead of directing. Designing costumes that felt realistic and seamlessly blended with the world we created was both exciting and rewarding. I also got to apply special effects makeup, including gash wounds and fake blood, and cutting costumes to mimic claw marks from the monster, allowing me to explore my creativity in new ways. Contributing to the film’s overall look and feel made me realise just how much I love being part of the filmmaking process.

Isabella Mclean, Ethan Malacaria, Grace Oneill.

Am I Woman Enough?

Documentary | 5m | 2024

I directed a documentary that explores the complex challenges women and gender-diverse individuals face in relation to societal expectations and perceptions of femininity. The film features interviews with a conventionally feminine woman and a non-binary person, offering a nuanced perspective that highlights both shared and contrasting experiences. Through these personal stories, the documentary examines how gender identity and societal norms intersect, shaping the way individuals navigate their sense of self.

Elizabeth Jin, Sam Golden

The Night Whispers

Thriller | 10m | 2024

The Night Whispers is a gripping thriller-drama that follows a father’s slow descent into madness as he becomes haunted by eerie whispers in the dead of night. Blurring the line between reality and paranoia, the film builds an unsettling tension that leaves the audience questioning what’s real. I worked as 2nd Assistant Camera on this project, supporting the camera team to bring the film’s dark, suspenseful atmosphere to life.

Geoff Cordner, Georgia Wardan

Where’d All The Men Go?

Drama | 4m | 2023

'Where’d All The Men Go?' is a period short film set in the 1920s that explores a man’s internal struggle as he confronts his identity, societal expectations, and internalised homophobia. I worked on this project as both editor and assistant director, and also made a brief cameo appearance. As the protagonist spirals between self-doubt and self-discovery, the film examines the rigid, socially constructed roles imposed on both men and women of the era. Through this deeply personal journey, Where’d All The Men Go? offers a thought-provoking exploration of identity, masculinity, and the limitations of gender roles in early 20th-century society.

your breath,

Drama | 7m | 2024

This short film follows the journey of two young women as they navigate questions of identity, sexuality, and the impact these have on their relationships with their parents. The film is creatively edited to reflect the characters' emotional connection to music and breath, adding a sensory layer to their personal stories. Wanting to broaden my skills beyond directing and editing, I took on the role of Production Designer and Lighting for this project. It was an exciting and rewarding experience that allowed me to explore a different aspect of filmmaking, though it ultimately reinforced my passion for directing.

Alexi Tagle, Minyu Vandenberg, Ginelle Gonzales
